General Requirements:

1. Applicant must be a registered Democrat voter in the City of Brockton.
2. Applicant must be a member or sponsored by a member of the BDCC.
3. Applicant must be accepted to or enrolled in a program designed to receive an associates degree or higher, at an accredited college or university.
4. Applicant must submit a completed application packet with all required documentation postmarked by the application deadline of August 29, 2008.

Selection Criteria:

A point system will be used to score applicants in the following areas:

1. Merit: a minimum of a C+ or 2.5 G.P.A. is needed for consideration.
2. Financial need (after school award package): Describe any financial hardship that would affect your going to college.
3. Level of participation in Democratic politics: Have you worked on a Democratic campaign? Been a member of the young Democrats? Studied political science and have Democratic values? Etc.
4. Essay/ Personal statement: Tell us in 500 words why you think you are qualified to receive this Scholarship. Include background, political involvement, future plans and goals.

General Rules:

1. When possible one scholarship each will be awarded to the highest scoring male and female applicant
2. All identifying information will be removed from application materials prior to review by the scholarship committee and all information will remain strictly confidential.

Awards:

1. There are currently four scholarships of $500 each to be awarded. (2 male, 2 Female), This is presuming there are enough qualified applicants.
2. Scholarships are monetary awards payable by check to the winners.
3. Payment of award will be made following presentation of the academic institutions bill to the Scholarship Committee Chair and will be presented at the annual Jean Sullivan Memorial Breakfast on September 14,2008.

The following items must be enclosed or the application will be void. 

1. A copy of the applicants most recent High School grades or College Transcript.
2. College acceptance letter or bill for the fall semester.
3. Completed application (enclosed)
4. Statement of financial need (after school award package): Describe any financial hardship that would affect your going to college. (approx. 50 words)
5. Statement of level of participation in Democratic politics: Have you worked on a Democratic campaign? Been a member of the young Democrats? Studied political science and have Democratic values? Etc. (approx. 50 words).
6. Essay/Personal statement: Tell us in 500 words why you think you are qualified to receive this Scholarship. Include background, political involvement, upbringing, personal plans and goals.
